The Five Most Frequently Asked Questions of New Parents

Being a parent is a big responsibility and with it comes many questions. Unfortunately, babies do not come with manuals so it is often up to the pediatric providers to provide the answers to many important questions. Here are the five most frequently asked questions we receive, as pediatricians, from new parents.

Which insurance plans do you accept?

We accept most major medical health plans, and we make it easy for you. See our payments page.

How soon after delivery can my baby travel?

Generally, a healthy baby may travel by car or plane soon after birth.

When can I take my baby out in public?

You can take your newborn out to a non-crowded environment at any time.

Do you perform circumcisions?

No. Hospitalists perform circumcisions in the hospital

How do you feel about homeopathy and alternative medicine?

We do not discourage the use of alternative medicine, assuming there are no harmful side effects. However, for most alternative remedies there is little scientific documentation to prove their effectiveness. It is our philosophy to avoid unnecessary medications and interventions. We feel that less is better.

What about the recent controversy surrounding immunizations?

Immunizations represent one of the most impressive medical advances of our age. Devastating diseases such as whooping cough (pertussis), meningitis, and polio, which used to claim the lives of many children, have almost disappeared. When do you begin immunizations, and how often do you give them?

At Rainbow Pediatrics of Fayetteville, we adhere to the immunization schedules recommended by the AAP. No baby likes shots, so we do our best to keep the needles to a minimum. Please see our immunization schedule for more information.

Do you give all the immunizations that are recommended?

Yes, we administer all the immunizations (aka vaccinations) currently recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics; these immunizations have been proven safe and effective. When a new vaccine is introduced, the AAP carefully reviews the benefits and efficacy before offering it to patients. And so do we.

What should I do in an emergency?

There’s always a Rainbow Pediatrics of Fayetteville provider on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. After hours, the office answering machine will give you the on-call number, which forwards you directly to our after hours answering service. They will contact the on call provider if needed. What if I have a non-urgent question?

If you have a medical question, you can call the office during the day. At Rainbow Pediatrics of Fayetteville, we make a point of being available. During office hours, we have a nurse voice mail that is constantly monitored.

How soon can I get an appointment if my child is sick?

We try to accommodate sick visits the day you call.

How are visits routinely scheduled?
