Freda Singletary, MD

Dr. Freda Singletary is a board-certified pediatrician in our Raeford location.

Raeford, North Carolina native, Dr. Freda Singletary grew up with a passion for all things engineering. Her high school summers were spent at engineering camps. Her hard work paid off and after graduating from Scotland High School in Laurinburg, NC, she received a full scholarship to North Carolina A&T State University. During her undergraduate studies, she interned at Cargill in Raleigh and did research with the US Army Corp of Engineers. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering and went on to work at Intel Corporation in Chandler, Arizona as a Facilities Engineer.

One meeting with Dr. Singletary and you will appreciate her love of people. While she enjoyed being an engineer, it wasn’t fulfilling her deep-rooted need to work with people. She prayed for God to show her the career path for which she was meant and He told her to go to medical school. She decided to move back to North Carolina to complete the prerequisites required. While doing this she worked as a seventh-grade science and social studies teacher at a local middle school.

Dr. Singletary then moved to Washington, DC to attend Howard University College of Medicine. While in medical school she battled with severe allergies and had to wear a mask whenever in the medical school. This experience ignited an initial interest in working as an Allergist and Immunologist. However, three days into her final clinical rotation, Pediatrics, Dr. Singletary realized she loved working with children and decided to become a pediatrician! After completing medical school, she moved to Augusta, Georgia to complete her residency in pediatrics. Dr. Singletary returned to NC in 2015, initially working in a local practice before joining Rainbow Pediatrics in 2017.

Dr. Singletary is passionate about traveling and trying new foods. In fact, she loves both so much that she plans vacations around restaurant weeks and food festivals. Her favorites include shrimp and grits and all things pasta, but she will try anything once! In addition to her faith, family and friends are also very important to Dr. Singletary. Her core value is founded on the importance of treating others as you would want to be treated. She treats her patients the way she would treat her own family. Her five nieces and nephews are her whole world and she treats her patients with the same love.

Fun fact: Dr. Singletary loves Harry Potter! She is in Ravenclaw! And don’t hesitate to ask her to share some random facts about chemical engineering!
