The Pediatrician Will See You Now

Across the nation, pediatricians have experienced a significant decrease in the number of patients they see each day. Despite illnesses such as RSV, flu, cold, and strep throat, many people are avoiding the pediatrician (and other healthcare providers’) offices unless a visit is necessary.

Not going to the pediatrician means kids aren’t receiving the vaccinations they need to protect them from illnesses. They are also missing critical physical examinations, screenings, and other necessary care. While it may seem okay to put off a visit to the pediatrician, the American Academy of Pediatrics is warning against it.

“Now that influenza and COVID-19 viruses are circulating, it’s very important that you stay connected to your pediatrician and your medical home.” – American Academy of Pediatrics

If most parents wait until COVID vaccines are available, there will potentially be very long wait times to get in to see the doctor. Also, delaying important screenings, vaccines, and exams put a child’s health at risk.

To protect patients, we have designated areas for sick and well visits. We are also taking patients back as quickly as possible to eliminate congestion in the waiting areas. Our patient appointments are spaced to permit appropriate sanitizing between patients. Also, our providers and staff are following CDC guidelines for the use of PPE. It is our mission to treat your child safely and efficiently.

If you suspect your child may have COVID, please call our office so we can advise you of care. We are not currently offering COVID testing. However, there are COVID testing sites available at FastMed and NextCare, as well as the Cumberland County Health Department and Cape Fear UrgentCare or Hospital. You can view a complete list of testing sites below.

We are pleased to offer patients Telemedicine visits; however, these are recommended for certain types of appointments and cannot replace annual well-child visits.

The moral of the story is that we are here for you. Whether your child is sick, injured, or just due for their vaccines or an annual exam, our offices are clean and safe. Don’t delay necessary appointments. Call today to schedule with your child’s pediatrician.
