Adrian Deese, MD, FAAP

Born and raised in Pembroke, NC, Adrian Deese knew she wanted to work in healthcare after she explored different professions through a unique program at her high school. The exposure to different areas of medicine opened her eyes to the possibilities. But it wasn’t until she shadowed a pediatrician in her community that she realized she wanted to become a physician.

Dr. Deese received her Bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University. She then went to East Carolina University (Go Pirates!) for medical school. Dr. Deese fell in love with being a pediatrician during her pediatric rotation. She discovered she was good at the job and connected deeply with her patients and their parents. It was the happiest rotation she had while in school.

Dr. Deese got a different perspective on medicine during her residency when her mom got cancer and passed away. This experience changed her outlook on life and made her a more understanding and compassionate physician and person.

After residency, Dr. Deese completed a fellowship in pediatric dermatology. Her advanced training allows her to be an expert in the practice of treating a variety of skin conditions often seen in pediatrics. This includes acne, eczema, psoriasis, birthmarks, and hemangiomas. She is a trusted resource for parents and other pediatricians, as her training goes beyond what a traditional pediatrician receives while in medical school. It is also very convenient for people to stay at Rainbow Pediatrics for pediatric dermatology rather than see a specialist outside the practice.

Dr. Deese loves being close to home, connecting with people, and being a part of the community. To Dr. Deese, there is something very special at Rainbow Pediatrics; her ability to be a part of her patient’s family is a blessing.

“Our greatest blessings are our kids, and it is quite special when we can share in that with another.”

When not working, Dr. Deese spends her free time with her son and family in Pembroke. Her elementary-aged son is her best friend, whom she loves spending time with. Having a son helps her relate to her patients because she can better understand their struggles and concerns.

She loves to travel and, now that her son is old enough to fly, looks forward to experiencing faraway places with him. She is an avid reader and just began reading the Harry Potter series after seeing all the movies! She also loves visiting the beach, visiting museums, and spending time with her church community.

Fun Fact: Dr. Deese completed her fellowship training in Phoenix and lived there for four years.
